The Equinox Is Coming: Preparing Your Space for Balance
The fall equinox is a powerful time of release, a moment to express gratitude, let go of what no longer serves you, and invite balance back into your life. Honoring this shift can be as simple as giving yourself time for rest and solitude: sit by the sea, take a quiet walk in nature, or simply open a window and feel the cool change in the air. When on your walk, seek ideas and bring the outside in by incorporating plants, branches, or natural textures to soften your space and create a sense of connection to the earth.
Traditionally, the season is marked by feasts and gatherings, with tables dressed in autumn’s essence, earthy tones, seasonal harvest foods, and the warm glow of candlelight. I have already dressed my table for fall, with a leaf-printed tablecloth and warm candlesticks to match. The smell of cinnamon and basil in my kitchen, and fresh sunflowers as the centerpiece. This feeling warms my spirit and keeps me grounded, plus all these fresh scents give a sensory experience.
Natural light becomes an essential design element during this time. Seek out ways to maximize it by using bulbs that mimic daylight, arranging furniture to catch the sun, and keeping windows clear to let every golden ray fill your home. I love natural light; it’s perfect for photography, drawing, and capturing the best colors of a room.
Finally, this is the best time to consider reducing visual clutter. I have been donating and upcycling things to keep my home clear of excess. All by welcoming new energy to come in and make healthy changes to my home. It’s essential to learn to let go, and by donating, we undergo this process repeatedly.
By styling your home with intention and crafting small moments or vignettes that feel sacred, we get a sense of that feeling of comfort. Creating a cozy reading nook, a fall centerpiece, or a place for meditation can help make your space a sanctuary of balance and renewal and welcome the next chapter.
