Designing with Gratitude: Creating a Mood Board for the Soul
In a world that often moves too fast, pushes too hard, it’s difficult to pause to notice that what we already have is almost like a quiet act of rebellion. Even when everything feels like it’s all going wrong, and the world is in chaos, it can be escalated by a wild mind that makes things so much worse.
What are your constant stressors?
For me, the greatest one has always been my health. After decades of pursuing wellness through holistic modalities, diets, biohacking, and art, it often feels like an endless journey, an uphill climb toward balance and vitality that sometimes slips just out of reach.
As an aging dancer trying to maintain fitness, it seems more out of reach than ever. The body that once moved effortlessly to rhythm and grace now asks for gentleness and patience. The challenge is no longer about performance or perfection, but about listening to and honoring what my body whispers, rather than forcing what it once shouted.
When pain, swelling, and inflammation surge through my already autoimmune-compromised body, mirroring the inflamed planet we inhabit, I often wonder, how can any of us truly find relief? It can feel maddening, even spirit-breaking, to live inside a body that no longer obeys your will. Yet somewhere in that loss of control lies the quiet invitation to surrender, to stop fighting and start listening, to find peace not in perfection, but in presence.
I’m constantly learning that wellness is an evolving concept. It’s not a finish line, but a lifelong choreography, one that changes tempo with each season of life. There’s beauty in slowing down, in moving with awareness, and in redefining strength as presence rather than power.
Perhaps this is the deeper lesson of health: not to chase vitality as something external, but to cultivate harmony within, through breath, movement, and the quiet art of simply being. One way I have always found solace is through art.
Gratitude is another way; it has the power to shift our perspective, transforming ordinary days into moments of beauty. One creative way to anchor this awareness is through gratitude mood boards, a visual sanctuary that celebrates everything you love, cherish, and wish to nurture. In my current mood board class with Holly Becker, we are exploring the concept of finding peace in a tumultuous time, and for me, this is particularly relevant in a non-cooperative body.
Cultivate The Art of Seeing What’s Already Here
A gratitude mood board isn’t about goal setting or aspiration; it’s about appreciation. It’s a practice of witnessing, noticing the subtle joys and meaningful textures that shape your life. Think of it as a personal altar in visual form, blending design and mindfulness.
Lately, it’s been incredibly challenging to find joy amidst the chaos. My system feels overloaded, and staying consistent with anything seems nearly impossible. Don’t be fooled by the perfectly curated images of hair, makeup, and filtered smiles; most of it isn’t real. It’s what we all do sometimes to feel a little better, to hide the exhaustion beneath the gloss.
Social media, for all its noise and glitter, is often just that, noise. I’ve come to see it as the “toilet of the internet”, a place where truth gets lost in the scroll and sales seem to be the answer to an all-consuming planet. Yet, paradoxically, it’s still one of the only ways to reach people in this unconscious world that clings to digital illusions.
Wake up, world!
It’s time to step off this delusional ride and face what’s really going on, within us and around us. As uncomfortable as it may be, we must confront our pain, distractions, and disconnection. Only then can we begin to cultivate a mindful, grounded way of living, one rooted in awareness, honesty, and compassion.
So now that you are awake….what next?
